Brooke’s First Day of Preschool

Brooke has been ready to start school since Hunter started two weeks ago. Finally, this week she had her first day. We went on Tuesday to meet her teacher, Ms. Jennifer. Ms. Jennifer gave Brooke her first project that she needed to complete and then bring back to school on Thursday. It was a cut-out silhouette of a (small) person and her instructions were for Brooke to decorate it to describe herself with drawings, pictures, magazine cut-outs, whatever she wanted so the class could “get to know her”. Brooke normally will pick up her marker and decorate the heck out of something if I asked her to. So I thought this would be easy breezy. We picked out a few things that she “loves” and we took pictures of them, printed them out and I handed Brooke the glue stick. She used it like a pro and glued them where she wanted them on the mini Brooke. I gave her the markers and told her to go to town. She wrote her name on it (backwards in a perfect mirror image like my little left-hander does) and that was all I could get her to do. I was a little disappointed because she IS so creative I wanted her to show that part of her as well. Nonetheless, it turned out awesome and here some pictures of her artwork:

Thursday morning she got right up and put on her pretty orange dress and posed for a few pictures with her new backpack (and one of her ponies) before we headed off to school. Her two little “best friends” from last year Kayleigh and Emily are both in her class this year and she is SO EXCITED they all get to be together.

We pulled up to the school and Ms. Ginger came to get Brooke out of the car. She kissed me good bye and went off pretty happily into the school. I drove away with tears welling up and a lump in my throat. I know this is supposed to get easier every year and to an extent it does. But I’m so proud of how well my children have turned out so far I think my tears are more tears of pride and joy.

Here’s to another year of preschool!
