Our neighbors next door so graciously let us borrow their condo in Galveston for the weekend. Butch, Wendy, Corey and Casey came along with us and boy was it fun!! We got to Galveston just after lunch on Friday and by the time we got to Schlitterbahn, the rains came. So instead of blowing off the day, we headed for Moody Gardens. We went into the aquarium (yes all the kids are in their suits still) and saw the penguins, the sharks, the stingrays and a TON of other fish.
Next we headed outside to the Dinosaur Exhibit…and for those of you who are wondering, the electric fences out there AREN’T real! :)
After we got all we could from Moody Gardens, the rain had finally stopped so we told the kids we would head to the Seawall so they could play in the water. And boy did they play! They LOVED it and could not get enough of the waves and the sand. Hunter kept wanting to go out into the deeper waters with Mike. So proud of the fish my children have become. This was Stone’s second trip to the beach but his first time to actually swim in the water! And Hunter, well I learned that the older he gets, the harder he is to get a picture of…that’s why there is so few of him.
After a long day, we headed back to the condo. By 10:30 everyone was pretty much sacked out! Saturday morning we headed out early and got to Schlitterbahn before the crowds. But it didn’t stay that way for long. It was a great day on the water slides and in the pools! But there were SO MANY people there. Hunter and Brooke and Mike had a blast on the tubes on Kristal River, which is a waterway that carries you around the park. I don’t have any pictures because my camera was in my bag in the locker. If Butch and Wendy’s water camera pictures came out, I’ll have them pass them along and I’ll post them here. We do all have nice tans to show for our day though. :) Here’s two random pictures of Schlitterbahn I took off the internet. One is of the kids area where we swam and the other is the Kristal River. Keep in mind, it was MUCH more crowded than this…
After the long day at Schlitterbahn (we were there from 10:30 to 5:00), the kids passed out in the car on the way back to the condo. I made us some dinner and then we headed back out to the Strand for ice cream. It was nice to get out and walk the Strand. We haven’t been able to do that since Hurricane Ike destroyed parts of the island back in September.
We left Sunday afternoon and took our time getting home. We stopped by the Lego store at Baybrook Mall to look around, picked up some lunch and then finally pointed the car toward Cypress. We made it home around 7:00 and then the power proceeded to go out (for the next three hours) at about 7:30. A bad storm had blown through and knocked out the entire neighborhoods electricity. We decided to head to a hotel to sleep where there was air, and then as we were making our way out of the neighborhood, the power came back on. The traffic lights and the street lamps all lit up!! Couldn’t have asked for better timing!
This is really the first true vacation we’ve been able to take this summer! I think we all enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next one.
