Well, a lot of people have asked me where my web site name came from. So…I’m finally writing it down.
In college, I lived in a dorm called Law Hall. The dorm was broken into 9 “ramps”. A ramp was a section of the dorm with three floors of 4 rooms each. There were nine ramps in Law, so there were 9 entrances, with 9 stairwells. Each ramp had a mascot. I lived in ramp 9, and our mascot was a mule.
The dudes that lived there with me were a real hoot. Kevin had an “interesting” speech pattern, and Ross quickly picked up on it. “That’s shit-funky-fresh-nah,” was one of there most common expressions. One day I bought my first guitar, and Ross had mentioned that if he had a band, we would name it “The Funkadellic Juijy Mules.” Yes, that’s right.
In grad school, I created a web site to distribute my software at the time, and needed a name. In honor of the knuckleheads in the dorm I was going to use Ross’ suggestion, but it was long, hard to type, and hard to give out to people as an email address and such. So, I shortened it to “Funky Mule.” I hope that’s OK, Ross.
While in the dorm, I still fancied myself an artist, and I guess the guys didn’t have the heart to tell me that I wasn’t that good, so they let me continue. Must have been funny for them. Anyway, after Ross’ original comment about “Funkadellic Juijy Mules,” I decided to sketch it out. It’s not a complete drawing, but it’s been about 18 years, and I’m still not done with it, so don’t hold your breath. Enjoy.
